Organizations
Dorcas Society
The Dorcas Society is the LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League) organization of the church. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 2:00 P.M. Topics are led by the members and Pastor. Mite offerings are sent to the Falls City Zone and are used for missions and Christian Growth. In addition, mission donations were sent in recent years to Friendship Home, Mission Central, Lamp, Cayman Island Ministry, Orphan Grain Train for flood victims, and Lutheran Bible Translators. The Dorcas members and other ladies have sewing days during the winter when quilts and other items are made. The Dorcas also serves lunch at funerals.
Lutheran Laymen's League
The Lutheran Laymen's League (LLL) meet the second Monday evening of each month. Topics are led by members and Pastor. Main activities held each year by the LLL are the pancake feed in January, brat feed and game night in August, and fruit sales in December. Most funds raised by the organization are sent to the Jamaican Lutheran Hour Ministry.
Youth
We have two youth groups. The senior youth group is for grades 9-12 and the junior group includes grades 5-8. There are adult sponsors for each group. The groups do many things together including the upcoming outdoor concert by the Daniel Christian Band. The youth meet after church periodically to plan quarterly gatherings for fellowship and fun. A major focus for the senior group and the oldest members of the junior group is always preparation and fund raising for the LCMS National Youth Gathering held every three years. They will also be planning mission trips.
In the past, the Youth of the church have made "soft books" and "busy bags" for the children of the congregation to use during worship. They have also assembled food baskets around Thanksgiving time for needy families in the community. They always assist with Vacation Bible School in many ways, such as helping the teachers and leading the crafts. Fund raisers such as a soup supper, spaghetti feed, potato bake, cookie walk, and worker auction are held to raise funds to attend the National Youth Gatherings. During the pandemic, they assembled 76 personal care kits for Lutheran World Relief using items donated by congregation members
Sunday School
Sunday School has an enrollment of from 35-40 with an average attendance of 15-20. MY DEVOTIONS are given to families who have children in grades 3 through 6. Regular classes are held from the end of August through May. The classes take a summer break from regular classes from June through August. The Christmas Eve program is a major production presented by the Sunday School children. VBS is also a big event the week of Memorial Day.
Voters' Assembly
All communicant members may become voting members who are 21 years of age, who have been accepted in a regular business meeting, and signed the constitution in a meeting of the congregation. Regular quarterly meetings are held in January, April, July, and October. The voters' assembly is the governing body of the congregation and is empowered to administer and manage all its affairs. The establishment and conduct of all organizations and societies within the congregation or related directly to it are subject to the approval and supervision of the voters' assembly. All matters are decided by a majority vote of the voters assembly unless otherwise specified by the Articles or Bylaws, including matters of doctrine and conscience, which shall be decided only on the basis of the Word of God. The right of calling pastors is vested in the voters assembly.
Lutherans for Life
Southeast Nebraska Lutherans for Life was chartered in the state of Nebraska in 1986. It was organized by two pastors of the Falls City circuit. The mission of the organization is to witness to the sanctity of human life through education based on the Word of God. Supported by free-will donations, they are affiliated with both the Nebraska Lutherans for Life and the National Lutherans for Life. The local group meets four times a year at Faith Lutheran Church in Humboldt. They have also had fundraisers to provide prolife speakers in nine area schools, floats in the county fair parades, diaper drives, bulletin inserts, and have twice set up white crosses in area church yards to call attention to the number of abortions performed each day. Pro-life members are always welcome to join the organization.
Any St. Peter's members who are interested in becoming part of any of these organizations are encouraged to contact Pastor or send an email to the church office at [email protected] to get more information.
